Traxxas Aton Quadcopter
|Looking at the Traxxas Aton Quadcopter, you may be misled, because it has a toy-like appearance to it. Don’t let that fool you, because this certainly isn’t a toy – it is something that both beginners and experts alike will enjoy. For those of you that are on the lookout for a quad that is easy to fly and capable of capturing smooth videos and stunning aerial photographs, then this drone right here is a viable option for you. When you first get the Traxxas Aton Quadcopter, you’ll notice the handy briefcase-like box. When you open the box up, you’ll come across a four-page quick start guide – regardless of who you are, you should read this guide because it will help you start flying right away.
You’ll also find a sheet of stickers, a two-page accessories and parts list, a warranty, screws, a full set of replacement parts, and a two-axis gimbal. In addition, you will receive two separate sheets that walk you through the installation and operation of the gimbal – if you’re a beginner that isn’t familiar with drones, you will definitely need this walk-through. A little more digging into the box and you will discover the fully-assembled and ready to go Aton itself.
Yes, the Aton really is mesmerizing …
What’s in the Box
The Aton Plus comes with a 2-axis camera gimbal along with a 3S 11.1V 5000mAh LiPo battery – both of those are improvements over the basic Aton package. The kit also comes with a battery charger, a handy screwdriver, cables, a 2.4GHz transmitter and landing gears.
However, there is no camera included with this bundle. Fortunately, if you have a GoPro camera, you are in luck, because you can use that with the drone.
Three Flight Modes
This Aton offers a total of three flight modes. You have Sport, Film, and Expert. You have a large array of flight aids, such as magnetometer, FPS six-axis flight controller, and a barometer. It also features an automatic failsafe, return-to-home function and geofencing.
Charging
Charging the Traxxas Aton Quadcopter is easy with the LiPo charger, which is included. The power and balance leads are joined into one plug, which makes for error-free charging.
The Transmitter
Have you had a chance to look at a picture of the transmitter? Looking at it, we feel that Traxxas did a good job at keeping it all simple and clutter-free. We don’t know about you, but personally, when it comes to transmitters, we don’t like having a lot of clutter. There are no unnecessary switches or buttons or antennas to break on the transmitter.
The transmitter comes with an extra set of control sticks and thumb pads that can be used to accommodate different users. The controller has an LCD screen that is simple, yet efficient – it can display information about the transmitter, flight mode, battery level, and throttle rate.
Conclusion
If you’re looking for a decent quadcopter that can take you from beginner to advanced, then the Traxxas Aton Quadcopter would be a great option for you. The controller is simple and clutter free, there’s three flight modes and it’s easy to fly. What more could you ask for?
